PENPAL

The Grand River Gallery is actively supportive in every way for our local " Pen Pals Initiative". This is a grass roots local community coming together toward a common vision. This is real positive energy that encourages the peaceful co operation that our planet needs today. The kids of today are learning that we should be mindful of our differences but bonded in the same human family and share a common home world. They feel we should be mindful of and support all living things that in their diversity co-operate so marvelously as one in nature.

Our kids will have to work together to restore the air, water, land and climate back to safe levels.

The world they will inherit and pass on desperately needs cleaning up.

It is therefore very heart warming to have witnessed the kids of today creating their own message with their art.

What they are saying gives us hope for the future in a happier, healthier and more sensible planet.

Hooray for the kids of Haldimand who would want you to know that they will all work as one for this planet we share.

EDITORIAL

We all appreciate art for it's own sake. We can all agree that some art works give us pleasureable experiences. Some provide an opportunity and a pathway for reflection. Some images conjure up fond memories and places or events of personal significance.

Many attempts have been made to define the word "art", and yet it's very nature demands further contemplation and constant renewal of the eternal and the fleeting moment.

Art also wants to be inclusive and reflective of our times and images we percieve around us.... the notes of a song.... a dance performance that made you smile in your heart when it happened.... a heartfelt connection with a painting or with a photo that triggers warm memories.... . Art is what it is ... and then it is even more.

The art we proudly displays reflects where we live and how we see .. the past present and future is woven together by paint and charcoal guided by our living hands and is a current reflection of what we see and how we see it in this moment.

Art has the power to heal and the power to mend. We celebrate the free expression of expression itself. Encouragement replaces exclusivity in this gallery. Most artist's hearts are gladdened when they do their part in bringing some good to our community .
