A gentle giant, known locally as "BIG FINN"
.....Vince is a world renowned carver of the highest callibre.
His sculptures grace collections both near and far and have been received by such personages as his holiness Pope John XXIII, many heads of state and some are on public display in the Canadian Musem of Civilization in Ottawa.
Vince Bomberry is from the Six Nations Reserve very near to the Grand River Gallery in Caledonia, Ontario. He is a member of the Wolf Clan of the Cayuga Nation. Bomberry’s artistic career began while he was in his teens. In his sculpture and carvings, he combines contemporary styles with traditional Iroquoian motifs and concepts, thus creating modern interpretations of Iroquoian culture. His works are in private galleries and homes, as well as national art collections such as the Native American Centre for the Living Arts (Niagara Falls, NY), the Canadian Museum of Civilization (Gatineau, QC), Indian and Northern Affairs (Gatineau, QC), and the Woodland Cultural Centre (Brantford, ON).
Vince tells me that he has always been a carver and will always be a carver! Lately, his thoughts have turned to his wish of sculpting much larger works than he has ever created before, and he has lately brought several huge and heavy stones to his workshop to work on.
Most of his works are pre sold to metropolitan galleries before they're even finished. There is a large international demand for his works
His strong compassion and feel for the stone is abundantly evident.
His rich native culture and the natural spirit of his subjects rises out of his work and inspires deep emotional responses from those who view them.
It is always a pleasure when "Big Finn" drops in to show me his latest finished project. He never ceases to amaze me! An original aboriginal and an artist who is a genuine pleasure to know. No surprise that his works don't stick around for too long before they find an appreciative home...
Occasionaly one of his earlier works is consigned here and available for the discerning collector.
